Navel of the Dream

Studio Still Life · 2025

Navel of the Dream presents a suspended field of sensation, lines converge into shadow, textures ripple softly outward, and light hovers without seeking to define. There is no fixed centre, only gradations of presence that seem to gather and then withdraw.

The image offers not a subject but a state, a rhythm of unfolding and withholding. Its surfaces blur scale and intention, drawing the viewer into a quiet negotiation with ambiguity. Light emerges tentatively, as if shaped by the darkness it never fully escapes.

Darkness, in this context, is not absence but an originary state. As in Hesiod’s Theogony, where Chaos precedes Cosmos, or in Taoist cosmology, where wuji gives rise to taiji, the central opacity becomes a symbol of pre-formation, a fertile in-between. It is not a void, but a threshold.

Rather than resolve, the image invites, into stillness, into drift, into that brief moment before form becomes name.

When clarity recedes and structure loosens, what do you begin to notice in the quiet that remains?
